Porsche 718 & 804 - Formula adventures in the one-and-a-half-litre era - by Jost Neßhöver, Jörg-Thomas Födisch, Michael Behrndt, Rainer Roßbach
1961 was the first year of the 1.5-litre Formula 1. In Germany, there was only one manufacturer willing and able to get involved: Porsche. At first, the monoposto called the 718, which was still a Spyder at heart, was enough. But then Porsche went the whole hog and built the last German Formula 1 racer to date from a single source. The engine, chassis, body and brakes of the 804 were all home-made and resulted in a genuine Silver Arrow. It was a bit too much and a bit too expensive, but it was an extremely exciting piece of motorsport history. Wonderful, previously unpublished pictures illustrate the memories of those who were there, and complete statistics round off the first comprehensive documentation of Porsche's Formula 1 experiment. This work fills the last major gap in your Porsche collection.
