Lotus 99T showcar to feature on Paddock Legends stand at historic car shows

Editor09.02.2020

Motorsport aficionados attending two prestige historic car shows - the Retro Classics car show in Stuttgart from 27 February until 1 March and the Techno-Classica Essen from 25 to 29 March 2020 - will have the opportunity to get up close to the official Lotus 99T showcar which legend Ayrton Senna drove used in his 1987 Formula 1 World Championship campaign.

The 99T was bulky relative to its rivals at the time whose pace setters were the slimmer and nimbler  Williams FW11B, McLaren MP4/3 and Ferrari F1/87.

But with Senna's coupled to the brute Honda-turbo power, the car was extremely fast in a straight line. Nevertheless, the legend was able to celebrate on the podium eight times twice as the winner.

Victory in Monaco was followed three weeks later by a triumph in Detroit which turned out to be the last victory for the Colin Chapman founded Lotus team.

At the 1987 Australian Grand Prix, Senna climbed out of the Lotus 99T for the last time as he departed to join McLaren and write another fascinating chapter of F1 history.

Thus the 99T will forever hold a very important place in the sport's history as true Paddock Legends.

MBA-Sport and Paddock Legends director, Markus Schell said: "As part of our long-standing relationship with Automobile Club of Germany (AvD) we are happy to confirm that the Ayrton Senna Lotus 99T show car will be present at the forthcoming Classic Car shows, the Retro Classic in Stuttgart and the Techno Classica in Essen.

"The car has an illustrious history and will be seen at our pop-up boutique stand where you will find a selection of our premium Paddock Legends, F1-related, leisurewear and merchandise.

"These classic car shows fit into the spirit of keeping alive the legacy of the many legends of motorsport. Michael, Schumacher, Ayrton Senna, James Hunt, Stefan Bellof while keeping tabs on the heroes of the future such as Mick Schumacher.

"Our portfolio of Paddock Legends is set to grow, and we will engage our existing network of partners to maximise exposure on all forms of media while providing unique and quality retro-related content mixed with current motorsport news which will feature on our Paddock Legends website," concluded Schell
