Abu Dhabi braced for super auction on Grand Prix weekend

On Saturday at 21:00 local time, after qualifying for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the auction will take place o the grid at Yas Marina Circuit. 

Prior to that, the selection of legendary race cars and road cars can be viewed throughout Friday and Saturday in the F1 Fan Zone on Friday 29th and Saturday the 30th.

Formula 1 commercial chief Sean Bratches, said of the venture “We are thrilled to be partnering with RM Sotheby’s to host the first-ever car auction on the grid in Abu Dhabi, bringing together like-minded enthusiasts for the first-ever collector car auction of this calibre In the Middle East.

"We are always looking for ways to increase a fan's experience and while not everyone will take away a piece of motorsport history, we are excited for fans to view this incredible collection across the race weekend.”

Formula 1 announced in a press release: "RM Sotheby’s Abu Dhabi sale will present best-of-category automobiles across numerous segments of the collector car market including a 2002 Ferrari F2002, Michael Schumacher’s Championship-winning car."

They also released details of the lots available on the day:

Formula 1 Racing Legends Auction

  • 2002 Ferrari F2002, Michael Schumacher’s Championship-winning car, victorious in three Grands Prix in 2002 (Estimate: $5,500,000 - $7,500,000);
  • 1992 Benetton B192, piloted by then-newcomer Michael Schumacher in the 1992 FIA Formula One World Championship (Estimate: $825,000 - $1,100,000);
  • 1982 Ferrari 126 C2, the sole surviving example, driven to victory by Patrick Tambay in the 1982 German Grand Prix (Estimate: $2,000,000 - $2,500,000).

Blue-Chip Sports Classics

  • 1956 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing, one of the world’s most iconic cars, outfitted from new with rare optional sport suspension and NSL engine (Estimate: $1,400,000 - $1,800,000); • 1965 Ferrari 275 GTS, a rare late-production example, originally owned by Prince Abdallah Moulay of Morocco (Estimate: $1,600,000 - $1,800,000);
  • 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 Touring, a fabulous example of Porsche’s most famous and desirable street GT (Estimate: $750,000 - $850,000).

Modern Supercars

  • 2015 Ferrari FXX K, Ferrari’s most potent track-only, limited-production automobile, producing 1,035 bhp, and showing 250 km on the odometer (Estimate: $4,000,000 - $4,500,000);
  • 2017 Pagani Zonda Aether, a one-off ‘760’-specification roadster fitted with an ultra-desirable sixspeed manual gearbox and a host of unique features (Estimate: $4,500,000 - $5,500,000);
  • 2016 McLaren P1 GTR, a virtually as-new, one-of-58 example, showing 150 miles and finished in special-order Canepa Green and Papaya Orange (Estimate: $2,200,000 - $2,400,000);
  • 2010 Mercedes-Benz SLR Stirling Moss, a single-owner example of the rarest and final version of the Mercedes-Benz/McLaren SLR (Estimate: $2,550,000 - $2,750,000);
  • 2014 Koenigsegg Agera R, one of a mere 18 examples built and capable of running on both petrol and E100 biofuel (Estimate: $2,000,000 - $2,500,000, Offered without reserve);
  • 2011 Aston Martin One-77, the 38th of just 77 built, with proceeds donated by the seller to African Parks (Estimate: $1,500,000 - $2,000,000, Offered without reserve);
  • 1990 Ferrari F40, signed by Ferrari Formula 1 driver Sebastian Vettel (Estimate: $1,500,000 $1,750,000).
