Eight RS Spyders raced around the globe in 2008. Teams and fans could look forward to a great season after the inaugural race in the American Le Mans Series, because the RS Spyders already celebrated a historic double victory at the 12 Hours of Sebring, beating even the more powerful prototypes from the LMP1 class.

This year, three of these Porsche sports cars were also allowed to prove their strength in the European Le Mans Series for the first time and ended the season with great successes. Two teams dared to start in front of more than 260,000 spectators at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and promptly celebrated a double victory in the LMP2 class.

In 2008, all the drivers' and team championships as well as the manufacturers' titles were won.
