Description

Porsche 911 in Racing - Four decades in motorsport - by Gustav Büsing

Barely three months after the delivery of the first Porsche 911 in September 1964, the premiere of the new model in motorsport followed.

Just a few modifications were enough to help the two Porsche factory employees Herbert Linge and Peter Falk to fifth place overall in the Porsche 911-2.0 with starting number 147 in the legendary "Rally Monte Carlo" in January 1965.

The "new" car thus proved right away that it deserved to be called a sports car. What follows is an almost unimaginable number of production and racing sports cars that all have one thing in common: They are descended from the "911" in one way or another. Whether circuit, rally or hill climb, there is no terrain or discipline where a Porsche 911 cannot win. Whether naturally aspirated, turbo or all-wheel drive, there is no technology in a Porsche 911 that is not good for motorsport success. Whether Europe, Australia, Africa, Asia or America, there is also no continent where the Porsche 911 has not helped its drivers to sporting laurels.
