At the end of the 1950s, the British Motor Corporation (BMC) laid the foundation for the cult brand from Great Britain and launched the first Mini on the market in August 1959. By the year 2000, around 5.3 million had been built in the typical and, up to then, hardly changed form. This makes the Mini without doubt the best-selling British car. After a sporty version of the car was presented in 1961 with the Mini Cooper, the Mini even won the legendary Monte Carlo Rally four times in a row. After being sold to BMW, production of the original Mini was discontinued before the new MINI was finally introduced as an independent brand in 2001.
