Description

Jochen Mass - a racing icon - by Jörg-Thomas Födisch and Achim Schlang

Jörg-Thomas Födisch and Achim Schlang have written the illustrated book ‘Jochen Mass – eine Rennfahrer-Ikone’ (Jochen Mass – a racing icon). Almost all of the photos come from the archives of the well-known Ferdi Kräling photo agency. Individual motifs are by French photographers Bernard and Paul-Henri Cahier, Nils Ruwisch, Prof. Dr. Peter Schroeder and from the Mass family collection.

The foreword was written by Hans-Joachim Stuck. Rainer Roßbach was responsible for the graphics/design.

The large-format book traces the history of Jochen Mass, who was born on 30 September 1946 in Dorfen, Bavaria, and grew up in Mannheim, and who entered motorsport following his professional career as a sailor in the merchant navy.

Jochen Mass has made motorsport history. His name is closely associated with extraordinary versatility and technical sensitivity! He was an early supporter of talented young drivers such as Michael Schumacher, Heinz-Harald Frentzen and Karl Wendlinger. Michael Schumacher received particular support from Mass. It was Mass who recommended the future seven-time Formula 1 world champion to move to Scuderia Ferrari during their time together at Sauber-Mercedes: ‘If you make Ferrari strong again, you will be the king of Italy.’
