The British Grand Prix at Silverstone took place on 10 July 1988 and covered a distance of 65 laps, corresponding to a total length of 310.57 km.
Ayrton Senna started the race in his Honda Marlboro McLaren MP4/4 from third place on the grid. He immediately moved up to second place at the start, before taking the lead on lap 14 and holding it until the end of the race. At the end of the season, he won his first Formula 1 world championship title with a total of eight victories. It was the first of three world championships in his successful but all too short racing career.
